Every shaft maker lists a weight in grams, and it changes with the model and with the flex. Inside one model, a stiffer flex usually weighs a few grams more. In a couple of cases it weighs exactly the same.

Dynamic Gold is a family, and the lighter versions are listed below the standard one. The standard Dynamic Gold is listed at 127 to 132 grams, the 120 at 118 and 120, and the 105 at 101 and 103.

WoodsDriver and fairway wood shaft weights in grams

The wood shafts below are lighter than the steel iron shafts above, and the models are sold in weight classes: a 50, a 60, a 70 and so on. The class is a rough label. The actual weight depends on the flex, as these two lines show.

FlexHow weight changes with flex inside one model

The tables above show three patterns.

Small steps. The KBS Tour taper tip goes 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 from Regular to X-Stiff. The Ventus Blue 6 goes 65, 65.5, 66, 66.5. The Tensei 60 goes 58, 61, 63, 64.

Same weight, different flex. Dynamic Gold R300 and S200 are both listed at 127. The Ventus Blue 5 lists 58.5 for both R and S. KBS Tour Lite parallel tip lists one number, 105, for R and S together.

Not always in order across the family. Dynamic Gold S300 and X100 are both 130, and S400 is 132. The flex name is the maker's own scale, so read the weight beside it rather than assuming the order.

Using itHow to use this chart

Find your shaft by name, then read across to your flex. That is the weight the maker lists for it.

If you are comparing two shafts, compare grams, not flex letters. A Regular in one line of shafts is not the same number of grams as a Regular in another. Compare KBS Tour R at 110 with KBS Tour Lite R at 95.

If you want the weight of the shaft already in your clubs, a club builder or fitter can put it on a scale. The chart tells you what the maker publishes, not what your particular shaft measures.

Watch forCommon mix-ups

The number in the name is a class, not the weight. Fujikura Ventus Blue 6 is listed from 65 to 66.5 grams. Tensei 60 runs from 58 to 64.

Flex labels do not line up between makers. Project X LZ uses 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5. True Temper uses codes like S300. KBS uses R, R+, S, S+ and X. Fujikura adds R2, R3 and SR. Put the grams side by side instead.

Parallel and taper tips are listed separately. KBS Tour lists 110, 120 and 130 for the taper tip and 120, 130 and 133 for the parallel tip. KBS says the .370 parallel shaft is a single-length shaft that is tip and butt trimmed, and that trimming can change how the shaft plays.

For what the flex letters mean, see the shaft flex chart.

FAQQuick answers

How much does a golf shaft weigh?

It depends on the shaft. The steel iron shafts in the chart run from 95 grams (KBS Tour Lite Regular) to 133 grams (KBS Tour parallel tip X-Stiff). Fujikura's Vista PRO graphite iron shafts are listed from 49 to 75. Wood shafts here run from 48 (Speeder NX Violet 40 R2) to 94 (Ventus Blue 9 X).

Does a stiffer shaft weigh more?

Within one model it usually weighs a little more, and sometimes the same. KBS Tour goes from 110 to 130 across five flexes. Dynamic Gold R300 and S200 are both 127.

Is the number in the shaft name its weight in grams?

Not exactly. It is a weight class. Ventus Blue 6 is listed between 65 and 66.5 grams, and Tensei 1K Pro Blue 60 between 58 and 64.

How do graphite iron shafts compare with steel on weight?

Fujikura's Vista PRO 70i is listed at 74.5 and 75. KBS Tour Lite, the lightest steel iron shaft in the chart, is listed at 95, 100 and 105 for its taper tip. See the graphite vs steel guide for more on the trade.

What shaft weight should a senior golfer play?

The makers' spec pages list weights but do not say who should play which one. A fitter can have you hit a few and show you the numbers. For the flex side of the question, see senior flex vs regular flex.

Where can I find the weight of a specific shaft?

On the maker's own spec page for that model, which is where every number in this chart comes from. If the shaft is already in a club, a club builder can weigh it.
